Abstract Historic city is a carrier combined ecological environment and traditional culture, whose ancient experiences should be respected so that the better ecological environment can be preserved for the city in the future. About 30 km away from Xian, Lintong city possesses a lot of historic remains, such as Huaqing Hot Spring Palace and Emperor Qin's Terracotta Army. With the rapid urbanization and industrialization, Lintong city's ecological environment is facing some challenges, mainly including the urban exterior expansion and internal rebuilding, influencing the cityscape and city scope greatly. The close relationship between the city and the Huaqing Palace is not displayed clearly during the urbanization. Meanwhile, with the development of tourism, the historical monuments and their significance are ignored, and some new artificial landscapes come out everywhere, which deteriorate the ecological environment in Lingtong. This paper holds that city ecological environment should be respected and maintained for the city ecological conservation and the natural environment and human environment should be harmonized according to sustainability theory. Also, the paper puts forward some suggestions for the ecological conservation in future. They are as follows:1) the realization of the separating the attraction management from the urban management. As to the city aspect, some new functions should be planed in the new three towns. The historical urban pattern in inner city, including the cityscape and street buildings with traditional styles, should be kept and more attention should be paid to the harmony between the Huaqing Palace and other buildings in city planning; 2) the authenticity of historic remains and attractions in the scenic region and the limitation in constructing the new artificial landscape in conservation; 3) the settlement of contradiction between the urban construction and rural development. In the terms of ecological conservation planning, the city, the Mount Lishan, the Huaqing Palace, the rivers, the countryside themselves and their background environment should harmoniously be considered together in the planning, so that the community residents could benefit from the sustainably eco-environment conservation.
